Old metal cutlery

Mismatched spoons can become the voices of a handmade chime.

Get to know it

Use clean unwanted utensils with smooth edges. Listen to each piece before choosing it: some ring, some clack, and contact with a string or another piece can damp the sound. Shape and attachment matter as much as the metal name.

For a simple chime, hang pieces where neighboring bowls can touch and adjust the spacing while it hangs. A line of utensils does not need an unreachable central striker.
